The fellowship is designed to equip physicians from diverse specialties—including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, among other clinical specialties — with the skills necessary to practice advanced Palliative Medicine across a wide range of settings and conditions. Fellows benefit from a broad spectrum of rich clinical experiences across multiple inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, including the Ottawa Hospital’s General and Civic campuses, which house both inpatient consultation teams and an Acute Palliative Care Unit; the Queensway Carleton Hospital; the francophone Montfort Hospital; the Palliative Care Unit at Bruyère Continuing Care’s Saint-Vincent Hospital; and the Regional Palliative Care Consultation Team, which provides community-based palliative care support to Family Doctors caring for patients at home. Additionally, fellows have the opportunity to engage with city hospices such as Maycourt, Maison de l’Est, and Ruddy-Shenkman, as well as community specialist palliative care teams.
